You know, the sad thing is, this is actually a fanfiction TO a fanfiction.
(But the author encouraged it, if I recall correctly, and it was more a novel then a fanfiction. 30 chapters, a 5 chapter prequel, and a sequel~!!)
It's a clip from a FF7 Fanfiction known as "Breathe...", which I will add a link to, should I find it while still in school... Anyway, it's a fanwritten scene from when Reno and the other Turks are in disguise and infiltrating Ross Energy, a rival corporation to Shin-Ra, now R&R Shin-Ra.
His mission? Retrieve information on Ross Energy that would benefit R&R Shin-Ra. His problem? That secretary was keeping far too close an eye on him for his comfort...
Reno bit back a sigh, running a hand through his gelled, dyed hair. How was he supposed to get anything done with her staring at him like that? He paused, glancing over his shoulder at her-- Yeah, she was still looking. Her hair was black, flaring out just over her shoulders, and the eyes watching from behind small, round glasses were a familiar sort of... yellow. Other then that, all he could see were her shoulders, narrow and delicate but cased in leather.
What kind of secretary wore a leather jacket to work? This girl was seriously strange... And sort of familiar. She was kind of cute, though, in a bookish sort of way. Reno blinked as she suddenly went pink and ducked her head.
...Coincidence, right?
Maybe not, he decided, as Mr. Ross himself suddenly entered from the door just past her desk. He moved as if to speak to the young woman, and Reno looked away, straining his ears. But the talking didn't come, just an interested noise and the sound of footsteps. Then a hand was on his shoulder, and when he turned around, Johnnathan Ross was smiling dryly at the Turk-in-disguise.
"Hello, you're new here, aren't you? Are you enjoying your work her, Mr...?"
"Palazzo, " Reno supplied, shaking the mans hand and nodding as if in shock of meeting the company Head himself.
"I-, uh, Y-yes sir! I just started this morning. Your company systems seem... very, well organized, sir," he said. Ross nodded, still smiling.
"Of course, of course. Have you met my personal secretary yet?", Ross asked, looking over his shoulder. "Mimi, come here." The woman winced, clicking something on the computer before getting up and walking over. Reno blinked. She was... shorter then he thought she'd be. Reno wasn't particularly tall, the top of her head barely came up to his eye level. He took the moment to examine her.
She
was wearing a leather jacket-- A strange one with short, obviously customized sleeves and two thick straps of leather, studded at the bottom, hanging from the shoulderblades. She had leather gloves, too, very soft looking elbow-high ones with the fingers cut away, revealing short, well cared for nails. Her actual clothing seemed normal enough, atleast, a split-front black skirt with a silvery sort of ruffle-layer underneath, a high-necked shirt of the same silvery color, and matching, knee-high socks with black, doll-like shoes. All of her was rather doll-like, Reno noticed, her figure petite and her stand stiff and polite. Her skin too was pale and unmarked-- Again it struck a familiar chord in his mind.
Reno held out a hand politely, blinking as she blushed again before taking his hand. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Ross smirk.
"Sven Palazzo. Pleased to meet you."
"Mimi Hojo. Likewise, Mr. Palazzo."
It was only thanks to his extensive history as a Turk that Reno didn't stiffen at the name. As it was, he barely heard Ross' next words.
"Miss Hojo here is quite the asset to our administrative staff. That organization is all thanks to her dedicated work-- If you have any questions at all, she's the one to ask. Mimi, what do you think of Mr. Palazzo here?" Reno was ubruptly brought back to earth as she removed her glasses, hand still in his, and stared hard into his eyes. He could've sworn he saw them flash green. After a moment, she smiled, and Reno was left with the distinct impression of having his brain doused in warm water. Mimi suddenly seemed warmer and less doll-like as she turned to Ross and nodded.
"I think he'll do very well here, Mr. Ross.", she said, folding her hands over her lap. Ross looked surprised, then thoughtful, and nodded as she started to speak again. "By the way, sir, weren't you on your way to meet Miss Raquel?"
Ross started, then laughed.
"Right you are, my dear. Do your usual, Mimi, that's a good doll." he said, patting her head parentally before turning and continueing into the elevator. Mimi stared after him, and Reno didn't imagine the way her hands clenched hard at the hem of her skirt. He turned to her, a little unsure-- Yelping despite himself as she grabbed his collar and dragged him to her level. Those yellow eyes stared at him again, and he knew now who she reminded him so relentlessly of. Hojo. And Sephiroth, too.
But her eyes softened, and she suddenly let go and stared at her feet. In a quiet voice, the yellow-eyed girl said something very important to the red-haired man.
"...Destroy him, Shin-ra. For all our sakes.
